Telegram groups are often where a client, a contractor or a small team actually talks. Linking a chat lets your Brain follow that conversation as it happens.
What it adds to your Brain
Fivo reads the text messages written in the Telegram chat you link, from the moment the Fivo bot joins. Each message a person writes joins the chat's history in the graph: who wrote it, when, and what was said. Messages from bots are ignored.
Unlike most integrations, Telegram brings no past history. Telegram gives a bot no way to read what was said before it joined, so a chat starts feeding your graph the day you link it and grows from there.
Before you start
You need a Telegram account and the ability to add a bot to the chat you want to link. In a group, that usually means being an admin, or the group allowing members to add others.
Telegram needs no password, API key or OAuth approval. There is nothing to grant: the link happens inside Telegram when the bot is added to a chat.
Only the organization owner or an Admin can link a chat with organization scope; anyone can link one with personal scope. See Connect your tools.
Step by step
- Open Integrations in app.fivo.ai and find Telegram under Messaging.
- Click Connect. Fivo explains that Telegram does not need a password or an API key and shows a link to finish in Telegram.
- Click Open in Telegram, or Copy link and open it on the device where you use Telegram. The link opens a conversation with the Fivo bot.
- Add the bot to the group you want to connect, or start the conversation if you want to link a direct chat with the bot. The bot replies in the chat confirming that it is now bound to your Fivo account.
- Back in Fivo, the chat appears as the connection once the bot has received that first message.
What happens next
There is no first sync to wait for, because there is no history to read. Every new text message in the linked chat is delivered to Fivo as it happens and becomes part of your graph.
The first Fivo account to bind a chat keeps it. If a colleague opens their own link in a chat that is already bound, the bot answers that the chat already belongs to another Fivo account and stays with it.
Who sees what: Telegram only tells Fivo who the administrators of a group are, never its full member list, so Fivo cannot know who reads a chat. Material brought in with organization scope is visible to the organization owner and to the people who took part in the conversation. With personal scope, only you see it. See Permissions: what your Brain can see.
Disconnect
Open Integrations, select Telegram and click Disconnect. Fivo stops storing messages from the chat. Removing the bot from the group in Telegram also stops the flow, since the bot can no longer see the messages.
Troubleshooting
- The bot replied that the chat was not bound. The link was opened before Telegram was connected in Fivo, or the link was altered. Click Connect in Fivo again and open the fresh link.
- The bot replied that the chat is already bound to another account. Someone else linked it first. Ask them to disconnect, or link a different chat.
- Nothing appears in Fivo after adding the bot. The bot only reports a chat after it receives a message there. Send one message in the group.
- Older messages are missing. Expected: Telegram does not let a bot read anything from before it joined.
